The purpose of the work is a production technology reprocessing of the corundum spinel plugs for the bottom purging of metal in steel ladles. The research methods are chemical, petrographic, physical-mechanical ones. Comparative studies of the main properties, chemical, phase composition and structure of fused aluminum-magnesia-chromite (Mg(AlСr)2O4) and previously used aluminum-magnesia (MgAl2O4) spinels have been carried out. The influence studies of fused aluminum-magnesia-chromite and aluminum-magnesia spinel on the main properties vibrocasting samples after firing at a temperature of 1580 °C and testing them for slag and corrosion resistance to X12MF steel melt (~ 1600 °C) have been carried out. It was shown that, the replacement in the samples composition of the aluminum-magnesia spinel with aluminum-magnesium-chromite spinel of optimum grain composition provides obtaining samples with comparable properties of open porosity (17.2 vs. 16.9 %) and slag resistance by crucible method (18 vs. 16 mm2) and increased cold crushing strength (123 vs. 227 N/mm2) and corrosion resistance to the metal melt by dynamic method (area of impregnation zone 1230 vs. 425 mm2). As a result of the carried out researches, the production technology of corundum spinel plugs with increased properties indexes of for the bottom purging of metal was improved. According to the contracts terms with the customers and the requirements of normative documentation, in JSC "The URIR named after A.S. Berezhnoy" the pilot batches of blowing plugs for the bottom purging of metal were released. Manufactured products were delivered to Ukrainian metallurgical enterprises for use in bottom purging of metal in steel ladles. The work should be continued towards the production technology mastering of blowing plugs with enhanced properties and the expansion of their production and use.
