The purpose of the work is a production technology improvement of the low cement silicon carbide castable. The research methods are physic-mechanical, chemical, petrographic ones. The amount influence of combined dispersing and plasticizing additive containing high-dispersed silicon dioxide on the flowing of freshly made, as well as on the flowing and structure strength the depending on the storage time and the main properties of the low cement silicon carbide castable in comparison with the previously developed composition of "NKBS" brand, was investigated. It was found that, the introduction of new dispersants into the castable composition in the optimum amount instead of the previously used additives based on polyethylene glycol and powdered quartz allowed to 5.4 times increase the mix flowing, to increase by 1.2 and 1.1 times the cold crushing strength of castable samples of low cement silicon carbide castable, which are heat treated at temperatures of 110 °C and 1580 °C, respectively, at virtually equal values of open porosity (15.8 and 16.0 %). As a result of the carried out researches the production technology of low cement silicon carbide castable of "NKBS" brand has been improved. The indicated castable is characterized by the following indicators of physic-chemical properties: SiC - 85 mass %, Al2O3 - 14.1 mass %, CaO - 1.05 mass %; grain composition of 2 - 0 mm, flowing 100 % (at a moisture content of 5.5 %), cold crushing strength after 7 days of curing and drying at a temperature of 110 ? (2 h) - 41.4 MPa, properties after firing at temperature 1580 °С: cold crushing strength - 160.0 MPa, apparent density - 2.72 g/cm3, open porosity - 15.8 %. In accordance with the requirements of normative documentation, at JSC "The URIR named after A.S. Berezhnoy" the pilot batches of silicon carbide products have been produced. The work shall be continued in the line of advanced production technology mastering of low cement silicon carbide castable, expansion of production and use of the silicon carbide castable, silicon carbide products on alumina-containing, nitride-containing and sialon-containing binders.
