The object of the study is documents and materials reflecting the history of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (hereinafter - ATO) and Operation of the Joint Forces (hereinafter - OJF) in the East of Ukraine in 2014 - 2019. The purpose of the research work is to search, source analysis and scientific study of historical documents and materials on the history of the ATO - OJF in the East of Ukraine (2014 - 2019). The methodological basis of research and development is a variety of scientific methods that have been used simultaneously to ensure the accuracy of knowledge, to solve problems and to justify the conclusions and recommendations. The results obtained: During the research, it was proved that the study of "hot" events, which are popular and emotionally dangerous for perception, put the researchers in a dilemma of public reflection and observance of the limitation period in the submission of material, while obliging to record the memories for later use. The selection and preservation of materials for conducting hostilities is not normalized by the relevant legal acts, which leads to the loss of valuable materials of war. The experience of the latest armed conflicts shows that not only changes in military affairs but also an information component are one of the important mechanism of war. Media publications have features that should be considered when using them as historical sources. The implementation of the study results into the educational process involves the use of its materials in teaching the course "History of Ukraine" for National Army Academy cadets. In the area of scientific research on the history of ATO and OJF, the results of the work lay the foundations of the source base for further research.
