The purpose of the work is to substantiate and develop theoretical and methodological foundations of risk management and competitiveness of Ukrainian industrial enterprises in conditions of uncertain market environment. Research methods - methods of systematic analysis and theoretical generalization - for the development, author's definition of the concept of "risk" and approach to determining the nature of risk; dialectical approach for research of foreign scientific schools of risk management and domestic scientific school of riskology; methods of statistical analysis - through the widespread use of official statistics, official reporting of enterprises and own calculations of the head and responsible executors of the scientific topic. The analysis of the current state of development of riskology and schools of risk management is performed, the modern directions of research of the scientific school "Riskology" are singled out and the directions of further development of modern riskology are proposed: research of technology, methods and methodology of risk management of industrial corporations, creation and development of risk management systems, creation and improvement of risk management systems methods of assessment of the most threatening types of risks, taking into account the type and specificity of activity. The economic content of the concept of "risk" is analyzed and the economic nature of risks of industrial enterprises is investigated. The concept of "risk of interaction" is proposed, which means an indispensable condition for the functioning of industrial enterprises in the context of their cooperation with each other and with other enterprises of the industry with probable adverse effects, which is expressed in the possibility of obtaining a negative or undesirable result. In contrast to the existing definitions of the concept under study, the authors used an approach that defines risk as the degree of deviation from the desired result, which can be calculated through a system of indicators that deviate from the actual result from the intended result.
