The goal of the work is a numerical simulation and experimental study of the electromagnetic properties inherited to planar metamaterials that depending on the type of periodicity (multi-periodicity or periodic disturbance). For planar metamaterial that consists of wires array, the localized transmission peak corresponding to the frequency of the defective mode is detected within the band gap of the transmission spectrum. Also, the paper presents a phenomenological model by which the calculation of the demagnetizing factors for a planar photonic crystal consisting of magnetite nanoparticles within dielectric matrix is calculated.
