Purpose: to determine the main determinants of the perception of social, environmental risks and socio-psychological stress of the population of the surveillance zones (SZ) NPP. Research methods: social-hygienic, sociological, psychodiagnostic, statistical and mathematical. The analysis of the data concerning the main natural features of the region, where is located the South Ukrainian NPP (SUNPP) and its SZ; explored factors of social and environmental risks of the population; determined the level of socio-psychological tension among the population of Yuzhnoukrainsk, Voznesensk and countryside. It is established that the exits to the surface of dense crystalline rocks and the location on the southern boundary of the "A" deadly zone. The overall indicator of the quality of life of the population of Yuzhnoukrainsk is the highest and has a statistically significant difference with the estimates in Voznesensk and the countryside. The social determinants of risk to the population of Yuzhnoukrainsk are sphere of health care, employment and democratic governance; for the residents of Voznesensk and the countryside – sphere of well-being, housing and living conditions and employment. Environmental determinants of risk are: road transport, emissions from chemical industry, non-radiation component of NPP activity. The determinant of the attitude of the population to the radiation situation is the storage and removal of radioactive waste. The socio-psychological status of the respondents in Yuzhnoukrainsk is significantly better compared to the respondents in Voznesensk and rural areas. Were made relations between socio-psychological state of the population and assessments of the spheres of quality of life, assessments of environmental and radiation factors have been established.
