Karazin Kharkiv National University popup.description2  Experimental results of a comparative study of the efficiency of conversion of carbon dioxide into CO and O2 in plasma of different types of gas discharges in the widest range of parameters are presented. The list of gas discharges includes DC discharges such as glow discharge in tubes of different configurations, high frequency capacitive and inductive discharges, unipolar and bipolar pulse discharges, discharges in crossed electric and magnetic fields including high voltage discharge with anode layer and magnetron discharge. The studies were conducted in a very wide range of gas pressure (10-4 - 750 Torr). Using mass spectrometry, optical spectrometry, and probe techniques, the authors investigated both plasma physical parameters and parameters relevant to the industrial use of this technology, including conversion rate and energy efficiency. It is shown that the optimal combination of a high conversion rate with significant energy efficiency demonstrates RF ICP source, for which a conversion efficiency of up to 82% and a conversion energy efficiency of up to 50% is demonstrated.
