It were identified and quantified the basic regularities of the process of fatigue crack growth in 17G1C steel samples at different macroscale levels with the availability of localization of plastic deformations at the crack tip. It was developed a new method of automated fracture diagnostics, which allows to identify elements of a network of viscous separation wells, to determine their number, shape and specific proportion of their coalescence within the analyzed area. It was proposed a method for identifying viscous gap holes by digital processing of fracture surfaces. The efficiency of the method is demonstrated on the example of the analysis of fractograms of 17G1C steel, taking into account their morphological features. On the basis of the performed researches new information was obtained for the theory and practice of technical diagnostics and non-destructive testing of metal structures of long-term operation in the basic industries of Ukraine.
