Registration Date 23-01-2020 Organization Institute of Geological Sciences of the NAS of Ukraine popup.description2  Report contains results of geological, lithologic-mineralogical, sedimentological, paleontological studies of marine bottom sediments. Samples have been collected not far from Ukrainian Antarctic "Academic Vernadsky" Station in the neighborhood of Galandez and Winter islands during the 23rd Ukrainian Antarctic season expedition. Report presents the analysis with scanning electron microscopy of material, macro- and micro-component composition, descriptions of nanostructural features, bottom sediments granulometry and taxonomic composition of complexes of organic residues (microphytophyllos). The presence of autogenous minerals formed from organic residues due to bacterial sulfate reduction has been confirmed by EDS spectra. Mineralogy has been studied together with chemical composition of the rocks. The analysis of the chemical composition led to conclusion about possible sources of sediment material in the bottom sediments of the coastal waters of the Argentine Islands. The analysis of vertical and literal changes in the lithology of sediments led to conclusion about homogeneity of sedimentation conditions during their formation. The analysis of sedimentation conditions led to conclusion about the paleogeographic and facial conditions of sediment formation in the Late Holocene. The ecological and biogeographic analysis of the flint microalgae complexes have been made using quantitative and taxonomic composition. As result, we determined the ecological groups of microalgae and specific conditions of their development in the study area. We made conclusions about possible climate changes during Holocene period and some assumptions about possible climate change in the future. The report also contains analysis of the content of insoluble sludge from the cores of glacier of Galindez island. We found significant content of phosphate minerals in the lake sediments, which indicates a significant role of ornithogenic factor in mineral formation.
