Methods of the research are: analysis, synthesis, deduction, induction, logical, systemic, problem-chronological, comparative-historical, and retrospective methods. The principles are: historicism, systematicity, objectivity, comprehensiveness, continuity, etc. During the first stage of the research project, the main focus was put on the formation of the historiographic base of the study; coverage of the first Russian-Ukrainian war (December 1917 – April 1918); analysis of the establishment and functioning of the southeastern Soviet republics in the territory of Ukraine (Donetsk-Kryvyi Rih Soviet Republic, Odesa Soviet Republic, Soviet Socialist Republic of Taurida) in 1918, and the “LPR”, “DPR” in 2014; demonstration of their participation in the hybrid warfare between Russia and Ukraine in a symmetrical comparison; the impact of the recent Russian-Ukrainian war on the ethnopolitical situation in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol; women’s participation in the national liberation struggle of 1917–1921; analysis of the creative heritage philosopher Yu. Vassyian, and the public and political figure, O. Boidunyk. It is the first investigation of positive and negative actions of the political leadership and governments of the UPR and Ukrainian State in the asymmetric confrontation to the hybrid aggression of Russia in various spheres of state policy along with revealing their causes and consequences, objective and subjective factors, and motives. The facts of the hybrid warfare between Russia and Ukraine at the beginning of the 20th century are detected, and their continuity and identity with the modern Russian aggression are proven. The research results are covered in 3 individual monographs, 2 sections of collective monographs, 21 scientific articles, and in reports and lectures at 34 scientific events.
