V. Ya. Yuriev popup.description2 Object: a method for laboratory evaluation of sunflower accessions for resistance to broomrape. The purpose of this work is to investigate the peculiarities of resistance of sunflower accessions to new virulent broomrape (Orobanche cumana Wallr.) races in the laboratory conditions upon sprouting in rolls and to modify the laboratory method of resistance assessment. Results: In the phytotron, 454 sunflower accessions have been evaluated for resistance to broomrape. Broomrape seeds were collected in the Kharkiv district of the Kharkiv region and in the Zaporizhzhia district of the Zaporizhzhia region. Using European accessions - differentiators of broomrape races, virulence of broomrape populations was estimated, and their racial heterogeneity was proven. A broomrape population from the Zaporizhzhia district was the most virulent. According to the investigated set of differentiators, it contained more virulent biotypes of broomrape than race H. Based on the field and laboratory data, a set of 20 accessions contrasting in resistance to virulent physiological races of broomrape has been investigated; of them 15 accessions were highly resistant. The method of laboratory evaluation of sunflower accessions for resistance to virulent broomrape races has been modified. The method consists of determination of immune accessions at the optimal seedling age (21 days) and the most effective way of visual assessment. Counting plants grown in rolls and having necrotic spots allows deselecting most of susceptible biotypes. Formalin concentration used for water sterilization for germination of sunflower seeds and calculated as 2-3 drops of formalin per 1 liter of water was shown to prevent developing the secondary root system of sunflower, to which parasite tubers cling, which makes it impossible to estimate damage to plants. Self-pollinated lines that are resistant to virulent broomrape races, KhZU8V, KhZU26V, KhZU6B, were submitted to the NCPGR of Ukraine for registration Product Description popup.authors Syvenko Valentyna Ivanivna popup.nrat_date 2020-04-02 Close
