The aim: to assess the effect of previous chemoradiotherapy on the character of radiation- and chemical-induced cytogenetic effects during radiation therapy in vivo and ex vivo depending on the mutagenic factor and tumor localizations. Research methods and techniques: cytogenetic analysis of human blood cultured lymphocytes, statistical methods of data processing, microscopes Axioskop, Micros MC300X, Olympus CX41 and Olympus, system ASIS. Theoretical and practical results: The different pace of chromosome aberrations accumulation in groups of patients with various tumor localizations was found. The increase of radiation-induced aberrations from beginning to end of the first part of treatment before scheduled radiotherapy break in patients with lung cancer and less pronounced changes in these parameters in patients with head and neck tumors were demonstrated. Undergone the second part of the course of radiotherapy the range of chromosome aberrations in patients with head and neck tumors did not expand. These data are of importance for correct assessing the impact of therapeutic irradiation on the chromosomal level. Novelty: the quantitative yield and quality range of cytogenetic damage in lymphocytes of patients with lung cancer and head and neck cancer before and during radiation therapy in the presence of a break following exposure were identified. The effectiveness of implementation: methodological approach of the study was implemented in institute’s radiology department practice; 3 articles, 5 abstracts were published, 4 presentations made.
