The main object of research: contact zones in geographical and chronological sociocultural space of Ukrainian society. The main goal: research of socio-cultural practices in border cases in historical dynamics. Methods of research: ethnographical (field research: interview, participant observation), grounded theory, systematization, comparative, systematic analyses, content-analyses, case-study methods. Chronological approach enables to analyze the empiric data in historic dynamics. Research results and their meaning: Local communities on borderlands (urban, religious, ethnic) where researched. The influence of borderlands discourse on human everyday practices was revealed. The mythological beliefs of Ukrainian communities located on borderlands where researched. New directions of borderlands research were elaborated: imaginary borderlands between megapolis and suburb, city borders, border between public and private. Theoretical and methodological principles of border research are established and peculiarities of the existence of the border in space-time, cultural and social dimensions are revealed. Results of research theme were enlightening in 2 monographs, 1 popular science books, 1 collection of scientific works, 62 publications, tested at 42 presentations at science conferences.
