Research methods - systematic approach to the study of the hydrodynamic system "atmospheric precipitation - catchment area - river runoff", GIS analysis of geospatial data, methodology for estimation of hydropower potential, statistical analysis of long-term fluctuations of hydrometeorological characteristics and the use of climate scenarios and models for the forecast of runoff parameters. The following studies were performed in the work: the homogeneity of meteorological observations on air temperature and atmospheric precipitation for representative river basins of Ukraine was conducted, a modern map of the distribution of water of rivers of Ukraine was created in which areas of river basins were identified. Taking into account the cyclicality of runoff, forecasts of estimation of changes in water content by stochastic regularities of their oscillations, up to 2050, were made. Climate models set projections for air temperatures and precipitation based on RCP scenarios for near (up to 2040) and medium (up to 2070) perspectives. Water runoff forecasts of mountain and plain rivers of Ukraine based on water-balance modeling and climate projections for near and medium prospects for river basin districts of Ukraine have been made. The methodological bases for the establishment of hydropower potential for the plain and mountain rivers of Ukraine have been created. The concepts of general, ecological and technically possible hydropower potential of rivers are substantiated.
