It has been established the relationship between protonemata gravisensity and UV resistance of Bryum caespiticium moss gametophyte, which is ensured by accumulation in cells of the UV-absorbing phenolic compounds. It has been shown that the 5-azacytidine aftereffect was manifested in the more intense branching of Polytrichum arcticum cells and the change in the inclination angle of the branches relative to the parent cell. It is generally accepted that the plasticity of moss development, their initial adaptation to extreme conditions, may be the result of epigenetic control, in particular, of variations in DNA methylation. Therefore, the identified specific gravimorphosis and gravity-dependent morphological and functional changes in the ontogeny of Antarctic mosses are adaptive features that increase the resistance and survival of plants under stress.
