The criterion of thermal destruction, based on the achievement of the temperature of dissipative heating of the degradation point of the material, is proposed. Using this criterion, the thermal destruction of an hinge-supported anisotropic viscoelastic rectangular plate with piezoelectric sensors and actuators was investigated. An analytical expression for the critical load is obtained, after which the plate ceases to perform its functional purpose due to the temperature reaching of the material degradation point, such as the Curie point. Based on the developed numerical methods the solution for the problem of forced resonance vibrations and dissipative heating of a hinge-supported viscoelastic cylindrical shell with piezoelectric sensors under an axisymmetric monoharmonic loading was obtained. The effect of shear deformation, temperature dependence of material properties and heat transfer conditions on the amplitude- and temperature-frequency responses, electrical parameters of the sensor, critical values of the mechanical load were investigated.
