As a result, the human lactoferrin gene was transferred to 2 varieties of tomatoes and 4 varieties of potatoes. It has been demonstrated that the resulting tomato plants and potatoes that express the lactoferrin gene are characterized by increased resistance to bacterial pathogens such as Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. michiganensis (causes bacterial cancer of tomatoes and potatoes), Ralstonia solanacearum (bacterial wilting) and fungal pathogen Phytophthora infestans (pathogen of blight).
