Research Methods - The concept of multivariate analysis, in particular from the point of view of international law, political science, economics, the study of other countries' experiences and historical parallels, became the theoretical basis of the study of combating separatism in Ukraine. Hypothetical and simulation methods have made it possible to characterize and develop possible scenarios for the development of the phenomenon of separatism, in particular in Ukrainian realities. The systematic approach made it possible to comprehensively approach both the whole phenomenon of separatism and its individual manifestations, to form a holistic perception of the totality of individual situational phenomena and the planned intentions of separatism. It is determined that the situation in Ukraine is rather characterized by the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine than by the existence of separatist movements, ideas and views. The reasons for the appearance of separatism in the territory of different states in the historical perspective and the present are determined and its manifestations in practice are determined. Aspects of the manifestation of separatism in the ARC from the moment of gaining independence until the occupation of the Crimean peninsula of the Russian Federation have been investigated; it was found that separatist ideas were always at the marginal level and did not pose a serious danger without the armed support of the Russian Federation. The reasons for the emergence of the principle of the right of peoples to self-determination in international law and its necessity and proper mechanism of action in modern international law are determined.
