In substantiating the feasibility of changing the structural design of the rail carriage wheel, methods of theoretical mechanics, mathematical modeling, similarity and dimension analysis theory, decision theory, numerical methods for integrating differential equations (finite element method) using modern computer technology and software Matlab, Mathcad, Borland were used C ++ Builder 6.0. To create the concept of adaptive cyclic control of energy consumption for self-ventilation by the friction contact “brake disc-overlay” on a mathematical model that takes into account the geometric parameters of the air ducts, the ambient temperature, the temperature distribution over the surface of the disk and the lining, theoretical methods are used. The experimental research methods that were used in the work consisted of physical modeling, tests on full-scale samples, bench full-scale installations, locomotives and wagons using approved methods established by the relevant GOST and GSTU. The reliability of the scientific results obtained in the work is confirmed by the satisfactory convergence of the data of theoretical and experimental studies, which is due to the correctly used methods of mathematical modeling and applicable theories, the correctness of the constructed models, the correct choice of test methods and technical means, measuring equipment, the correctly created methodology, the program and the collection methods and processing the results of experiments. The main results obtained during the implementation of the project were used in the SE «Ukrainian Research Institute of Carriage Engineering» and PJSC «Scientific and Production Center «Transmash» when conducting research and design work.
