M. Vysotsky popup.description2 Study object: special aspects of growth, development and formation of protective forest belts of various purposes and natural overgrowth of old opencast mine and dumping sites with trees and shrubs. Aim of the study: to ascertain special aspects of development of protective forest belts on reclamation fund land, to analyse features of natural overgrowth of old opencast mine and dumping sites with woods and shrubs and to study success rate of forest stands established by containerized seedlings of main forest forming species. Methodology of the study: fund and information resources from official state reporting were used; field studies in stands of various protection categories were done using morphometric, forest-taxation and biometric indicators. Forest mensuration characteristics and reclamation properties of protective forest belts of various purposes were evaluated; diagnostic indicators were developed for assessing both condition and reclamation efficiency of forest belts. The condition of forest recultivation sites was determined; a comprehensive assessment of the overgrowth level of old opencast mine and dumping sites was provided. The condition of oak and pine stands planted with containerized seedlings was analysed. A positive effect of the ‘Rokogumin’ amino acid fertilizer was found. It enhances both growth of containerized oak seedlings when used with the leaf-feeding dressing and growth of planting material of ornamental conifers. Recommendations for improving land-reclamation effectiveness of both protective forest belts of various purposes and forest recultivation objects were developed.
