Registration Date 26-02-2020 Organization Ukrainian Research Institute of Forestry and Forest Melioration named after G. M. Vysotsky popup.description2 Object of the study: selection and variety testing of native and introduced forest tree species. Aim of the study: to improve scientific approaches to both selection at individual and population levels and hybridization; to study and provide a complex assessment of prospective forms and varieties of forest tree species used to establish plantations of different purposes. Methods of the study: Breeding material was studied by means of the mensuration, selection, morphological, anatomical and cytological methods. Evaluation of each variant was based on the sum of points the latter got on being analysed by a number of indicators. Propagation of valuable genotypes was performed using biotechnological methods. Theoretical and practical results: Evaluation of plus trees (PT) and clonal seed orchards (CSO) by the growth and development of their offspring at the progeny and variety test plots was carried out. Variability, growth and development of climatic types at the provenance tests were studied. The reproduction intensity of PT clones at CSO were evaluated, characteristics of meiosis of Scotch pine PT clones in particular. The prospects for 14 coniferous and 14 broadleaved introduced species to be used when establishing stands of different purposes were determined. The prospects for 13 poplar and willow cultivars to be used for the bioenergy needs were evaluated. Experiments on microclonal propagation of Quercus robur, Populus Bolleana and Corylus maxima were continued. Plants of Populus Bolleana, which had been propagated in vitro, were planted into the ground. A complex approach to the assessment of prospects of selected material to be used when establishing stands of different purposes has been worked out. Implementation efficiency: Usіng of the improved material will increase productivity and resilience of planted stands of different purposes. Area of implementation: forestry, bioenergy.
