M. Vysotsky popup.description2 Object of the study: forest stands in different natural zones of Ukraine, damaged by surface fires. Aim of the study: to identify main tendencies of occurrence of fires and features of post-fire development of the studied forests. Research methods: methods of comparative ecology using forestry and mensuration methodological approaches, dendrochronological methods and methods of retrospective and systematic analysis. The role of different types of damage to pine trees caused by surface fire in different natural zones was studied. The main causes of certain damages are identified. During fires, convective heat transmision damages trees and results in a severe deterioration of pine forest health. During surface fire in middle-aged pine stands, fire does not damage cambium due to a thick bark at the bottom of the trunk. The danger arises when the fire, going up the trunk, reaches a thin bark. The height of the transition from a thick bark to a thin one increases with the diameter of the tree. Forest stand health may worsen due to the combined impact of anthropogenic factors and extreme climatic and hydrological conditions. Thus, when pollution is reduced, restoration of radial growth can be significantly inhibited by drought. In older stands, predominance of one or another damage type depends mostly on the characteristics of the fire itself, hygrotope, and characteristics of the soil. Recommendations on the measures to improve forests’ fire resistance and methods for predicting their post-fire development have been developed. The document involves major guidelines aimed at improving fire resistance of forests. A technique for predicting post-fire development of pine forests at the level of stands and individual trees has been developed. The results of the study can be implemented in the forestry enterprises. Product Description popup.authors Bolohov Oleksii Yu. Borysenko Vitalii H. Voron Volodymyr P. Koval Iryna M. Melnik Yevhen Ye.
