The growth conditions were determined and worked out. In order to improve the optical characteristics, the initial charge was purified from the background impurities before crystallization, additional doping of germanium with Sb5+ donor impurity, and high-temperature annealing of the samples. Optimization of polycrystalline germanium growth conditions (zone melting mode) was also carried out, which led to improvement in the uniformity of the distribution of optical characteristics along the length of the crystal of measuring 150-180 mm. As a result, there was achieved value of attenuation coefficient of the samples of polycrystalline germanium on the level of 0.04-0.05 cm-1, corresponding to requirements for optical germanium to be used in IR optics.
