The purpose of the study is to develop theoretical and methodological support for the formation of a system of state regulation of the electric energy market of Ukraine. Research methods - theoretical generalization, analysis, synthesis, system analysis, expert assessment, economic and mathematical modeling, target programming. Scientific and technical results: theoretical and methodological foundations of the formation of a competitive model of the wholesale market of electric energy; conceptual provisions on the selection of a competitive model of the wholesale market for electric energy; guidelines for the parametric identification of competitive electricity markets in the world; analytical support for assessing the effectiveness of the functioning of the competitive electric energy market. The results of scientific research on the topic are accepted for work by the Office of the President of Ukraine. The work is interconnected with previously performed studies on the topics: “Organizational and economic mechanisms for implementing the innovative technological policy for the development of the energy sector of Ukraine”, “Justification of structural changes in the energy sector and the possibilities of its modernization”, “Justification of the mechanism of liberalization of the energy market of Ukraine”. The results of the work are recommended to be used in the formation of competition policy and the components of the organizational and economic mechanism of the functioning of the electricity market of Ukraine. The implementation of the proposed provisions will ensure the formation of an open competitive environment and a fair price for electric energy. Further research is planned in the direction of developing conceptual provisions for the formation of a system of state regulation of the electricity market in Ukraine.
