The results of metatheoretical research in sociology are generalized. The conceptual composition and general theoretical foundations of modern sociology are specified. The conceptual, epistemological, methodological, and metatheoretical heterogeneity of sociology is increasing. The differentiation of contemporary sociological metatheorizing into positivist, hermeneutic, critical, postmodern, feminist and other perspectives remains. These perspectives branch out into sub-perspectives. In sociology, metatheorizing is differentiated into empirical and philosophical, explicit, and implicit versions. Intellectual leaders of sociology ignore explicit metatheorizing. The institutionalization of explicit metatheorizing in sociology is incomplete. After 2000, metatheoretical research went beyond the disciplinary boundaries of sociology and extended to other social science disciplines.
