Object of study - bryophytes of Ukrainian Roztoche and anthropogenic transformed territories, colonization of disturbed territories, variability of morphological structure of moss turfs, formation of organs of generative and vegetative reproduction, functioning of pigment system, antioxidant protection, carbohydrate metabolism depending on the light intensity, water and temperature regime of the investigation area. The purpose of the work is to study the systems of mosses adaptive reactions: constitutive protection, which is constantly in a functionally active state in changing conditions of the natural environment and induced morpho-functional ontogenetic adaptations to long-term influence of stress factors (high temperature, high intensity of light and water deficit. It has been established that the adaptation of mosses to significant changes in microclimatic conditions is due, first of all, to the plasticity of the morphological structure of moss turfs, namely changes in the density of turfs and the size of leaves and their parts. In response to stress factors such as water deficit, high insolation and high temperatures, the bryophytes responded with a series of adaptive adjustments – activation of the synthesis of soluble sugars, free proline and phenols. It was established that the resistance of mosses was determined by the functioning of the constitutive and induced protective systems, depending on their life strategy and life form. Under salinization conditions constitutive mechanisms of salt resistance (high antioxidant status, constitutive pool of soluble carbohydrates and non-enzymatic components of glutathione-ascorbate cycle) are manifested for salt-tolerant species of bryophytes and plants with a lower level of tolerance adapt to the stressor mainly due to induced protective reactions.
