The purpose of the study is to develop the method of treatment for the removal of chromium and nickel ions using natural clay materials, which are waste from aviation production. Methods: atomic adsorption and and photocolorimetric, spectral, X-ray and granulometric methods of analysis. The experimental data were processed using computer software packages: Mathcad, SSPS statistical package, Advanced Grapher 2.2. The sorption properties of natural clay materials – spondylian green clay and dark brown loam – in relation to chromium (III) and nickel (II) have been investigated. To achieve maximum efficiency of treatment the required ratio "solid - liquid" is 1:50. The maximal sorption capacity of the spondylian green clay for chromium was 41 mg/g and for nickel it is 245 mg/g. The maximum sorption capacity of loam dark brown for nickel was 170 μg/g. The method of the spent sorbents disposal through their deposition in constructional mixtures with cement was offered. The method reduces the amount of sludge, guarantees safe fixation of sorbate, preventing the migration of heavy metals in the "water-soil system", even under the changes of pH and temperature of the surrounding environment. The annual cost of using the studied clay materials in the replacement of reagent technology will be 207 thousand UAH/year, and cost savings – 400 thousand UAH/year. The result of applying the proposed method is the increase of the environmental safety through the use of efficient and safe natural sopbents, providing minimization of the resources and energy consumption and prevention of the secondary pollution at all stages of their use and disposal.
