The analysis of existing systems in the world and in Ukraine of damage control of metal and structural elements during operation and sensitivity of various mechanical characteristics for the degradation of metal in order to formulate tasks for improving the monitoring of its damage was performed. A detailed FE model of the equipment of the first circuit is developed and numerical simulation of deformation of a number of critical elements under load modes and comparative analysis of SSS with the parameters of monitoring systems are carried out. Complex experimental and design studies were performed to assess material damage. The studies were performed on materials in their initial state and with a real load history. The possibility of implementing the metal control methods developed by the Institute for the purpose of material degradation assessment as an integral part of the overall equipment monitoring system is considered. On the basis of the conducted researches the conclusions about peculiarities of application of existing control methods are made. Based on the results of the analysis and research, the concept of monitoring the damage of nuclear power plant components with subsequent stages of its development has been developed and proposed.
