The constant change in the properties of the pathogen (causative agent of tuberculosis), which is founded evolutionary and in connection with the influence of bio- and abiotic factors, complicates the diagnosis, development of prophylaxis measures and the eradication of infection. The existing world-famous vaccine, was developed at the beginning of the 20th century due to the loss of vaccine reserve genes, has substantially lost its immunogenicity and acquired some new properties, which has had a negative influence on its effectiveness. Therefore, WHO has registered 230 strains of mycobacteria that could potentially be used to construct an antituberculous vaccine. Considering this, the Department intensively conducts scientific work, which is aimed specifically at solution of the problem of tuberculosis by means of a versatile and in-depth study of the properties of Mycobacterium bovis, thе fast-growing strain isolated by the co-workers of the Department of biological material of horned cattle and selection of immunogenic strain of micobacteria which would provide specific protection of an organism of animals and the man from the causative agent of tuberculosis.
