The aim of the study: to establish the specifics, regularities of the language development and functioning of the language units thatrepresent different tiers of the language system. Research methods: descriptive method, in particular description of a concept using its associative field; comparative method; modeling method; analysis of semantic meanings; etymological analysis; method of studying concepts through the lexical-grammatical field of the lexemes representing it; method of associative experiment; analysis of concept name throughparemias; analysis of individual author nominations; cognitive-semantic analysis; comparative analysis of concepts in different cultures; comparison of individualauthor and national concepts; conceptual analysis with different combination of the most methodsmentioned above. Scientific and practical significance of the work The research work of the department is essential for studying the dynamics of the development of the modern linguistic world mapping. Developing cognitive and pragmatic tendencies in modern linguistics, scientists of the department continue the traditions that were established in Kharkiv by O. Potebnia and supported by linguists of the Kharkiv Philological School. The main direction of research work of the department is the analysis of the language of the literary text on different tiers of its content structure. In the monographic works the problems of functioning of morphological and syntactic units in poetic and prose literary text, paradigmatic structure of vocabulary of works of art are investigated, theoretical problems of stylistic analysis are developed. The department continues to work in training of postgraduates and doctorals in Philology. The topics of thesis are multi-vector, based on the achievements of modern philology.
