Skovorody popup.description2  The subject of the study is the hydrological regime of the marshes of the Left Bank Ukraine. The object of study is the swamps of the Left Bank Ukraine. The relevance of the scientific development of this topic is due to the need to study swamps to determine the patterns of their formation and distribution on the left bank. This is necessary because the marshes form a special ecosystem. The organisms that inhabit this ecosystem need to be adapted to life both in water and on land, since life in the marshes is a cross between terrestrial and aquatic habitat. In Ukraine, marshes occupy more than 1,200 thousand hectares with over 3 billion tons of air-dry peat. The largest swamps in Ukraine are in Polissya (900 thousand ha), less - in the forest-steppe (about 300 thousand ha), even less - in the Steppe and mountainous regions. In Ukraine, there was a powerful work on the drainage of marshes, which resulted in many species of plants, including valuable medicinal (wolf body, white water lily, common tortoise) and others, were listed in the Red Book of Ukraine.
