V. Kurdyumov IMPh of the N.A.S.U. popup.description2  A comprehensive study of the influence of external parameters of friction, technological environment and chemical composition of materials (copper and copper alloys, steels 120X15, 20X13, 120X15D10) on the mechanism and conditions of formation of wear-resistant nanostructured and ultradisper surface layers was made. It is established that the transition of friction pairs to stationary mode with minimum coefficient of friction and wear occurs only after self-organization on the contact surfaces of both bodies of wear-resistant layers in enough quantity for complete shielding during working of the deformed source metal. Wear-resistant layers consist of a qualitatively new nanostructured or fine-grained material, which may contain up to 35 at.% of active chemical elements of the working medium, which do not form any chemical compounds with the atoms of the parent metals.
