Purpose: to determine the nature and patterns of changes in physiological, biochemical and cyto-histological parameters of aboriginal and alien aquatic organisms and to establish the limits of their adaptive capabilities in the conditions of anthropogenic transformation of aquatic ecosystems.Research methods: hydrochemical, hydrobiological, ichthyological, cytological, histological, physiological, biochemical, statistical. The scientific report contains: a modern review of the process of transformation of hydrobiocenoses of the Dnieper under the influence of biological invasions; hydrochemical characteristics of the Dnieper (Zaporizhzhya) reservoir regime; assessment of the species composition, age structure, reproductive potential of fish of the Dnieper (Zaporizhzhya) reservoir; characteristics of individual indicator invasive species; the size of fish stocks and recommendations for their rational use in the coming years; the results of cytological and histological studies of the reproductive system of both aboriginal species and invasive aquatic organisms; assessment of biochemical mechanisms of adaptation of aboriginal species of fish and invasive aquatic organisms; practical recommendations for bio-ameliorative measures for restoration and conservation of aboriginal species. Studies of the course of oogenesis and spermatogenesis of alien species of Dnieper reservoirs were conducted for the first time on the example of pumpkinseed, prussian carp, black sea sprat, marbled crayfish, and considered the cellular mechanisms of resorption. The limits of adaptive capabilities of aquatic organisms, which are under the influence of toxicological pollution, are determined. Practical recommendations include calculations of limits and forecasts of catching aquatic bioresources in the Dnieper (Zaporizhzhya) reservoir.
