Aim: to develop elements of technology for growing high quality watermelon and melon seeds for compaction of crops in the northern steppe of Ukraine. Methods: field and laboratory. Methods of growing watermelon and melon seeds depending on compactors (sugar corn, vegetable beans) and schemes of their placement have been studied. Control - growing seeds without compaction (basic technology). The use of sweet corn caused decrease in the degree of sunburn in watermelon by 7.1% relative to control, melon by 7.8%. The highest yield of watermelon seeds (187 kg / ha) and melons (116 kg / ha) was established by compacting their rows with sugar corn to the scheme 2.8 x 1.0 m, with an increase in yield to control respectively 21 kg / ha and 15 kg / ha. The highest total profit for growing watermelon seeds (70.8 thousand UAH / ha) and melons (56.7 thousand UAH / ha) and the level of profitability, respectively, 247.6 and 187.7% was set for compaction of rows with corn sugar according to the scheme of 2.8 x 1.0 m. The increase in profit was 14.8 thousand UAH / ha for watermelon, 14.6 thousand UAH / ha for melon, the level of profitability was 26.4% and 38.9%, respectively. Developed "Method of growing watermelon and melon seeds for compaction of crops" (u 2020 06947). Method growing watermelon and melon seeds when compacting their rows with sugar corn according to the scheme 2.8 x 1.0 m compared to the basic technology increases the yield of watermelon and melon seeds by 12-15%, the profitability by 37-39% with production of sweet corn (0.8 t / ha). According to the results of research for seed producers developed " Methodical recommendation for the technology of growing watermelon and melon seeds for compaction of crops."
