The aim of the study is to derive regularities for the controlled modification of the magnetism of intermetallics by hydrogenation and search for compounds with optimal hydrogenation properties. The magnetic properties of the compounds Tb2Co2Ga, Tb2Ni2Ga (W2CoB2 structure type) and Tb3Co3Ga (W3CoB3 structure type) are affected by hydrogenation: the Curie temperatures of the ferromagnetic compounds Tb2Co2Ga and Tb3Co3Ga are reduced, and the antiferromagnetic order in Tb2Ni2Ga is suppressed. The more complex nature of the magnetic phase transitions for Tb2Co2Ga and Tb3Co3Ga, as well as the smaller effect of hydrogenation on the magnetic ordering temperature, indicates the role of Co in the magnetism of the compounds. The behavior of Tb2Ni2Ga indicates the typical nature of 4f-systems with a dominant role of RKKY exchange interactions. The influence of the nature of the p-element on the hydrogenation properties of intermetallics containing f- and d-elements was analyzed on the example of hydrogenation of the compound Dy2Ni2Al0.8Sn0.2 (W2CoB2 structure type). The hydrogenation properties of the compound Dy2Ni2Al0.8Sn0.2 are closely related to aluminides: the hydrogenation of the compound Dy2Ni2Al0.8Sn0.2 is fast, and, on the other hand, the presence of lead leads to a lower degree of amorphization of the sample compared to aluminides, what has a positive effect on the reversibility of the hydrogenation process. The obtained results allow to control the magnetic properties of intermetallics by hydrogenation, as well as to regulate the hydrogenation properties of intermetallics by element substitutions.
