On the basis on this approach, the spectral-angular and angular distributions of this radiation on the periodic structure, composed of parallel conductive strips, on the opposite side of the structure with respect to the region of the electron beam motion are calculated. The investigation of radiation was performed in both the wave and near-field zones. It is shown that for the Smith-Purcell radiator, in which the periodic structure is located directly on the surface of the optical fiber, the radiation intensity is very low. The configuration of such a radiator applying an optical fiber for radiation transportation, which provides a sufficient intensity of radiation for its practical use, is proposed. On the basis of registration of radiation generated by the beam in such a radiator, the method of measuring the transversal coordinates of the beam is developed.
