Research methods: low-angle neutron scattering, vibrational spectroscopy, quantum chemical modeling Experimental studies of structural and dynamic properties of lipid systems with different component composition have been carried out. Low-angle neutron scattering curves were obtained on single-layer vesicles formed by dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine phospholipid molecules, as well as on systems consisting of phospholipid molecules with the addition of different amounts of melatonin and cholesterol. In this way, the effect of cholesterol and melatonin on the structural parameters of phospholipid membranes was studied. The dependence of the lipid bilayer thickness on the concentration of melatonin and cholesterol was established by comparing the structural parameters of lipid systems. It was found that an increase in the concentration of cholesterol in the lipid membrane leads to an increase in the thickness of the lipid bilayer. Unlike cholesterol, which is located in the area of lipid tails and increases the thickness of the lipid bilayer, melatonin is localized in the area of the lipid heads, reducing the degree of ordering of lipid molecules in the membrane, and, consequently, the thickness of the membrane. The structure and oscillation spectra of water clusters of different sizes were studied by computer simulation methods. Thus, the spectral manifestations of intermolecular interaction in the water surrounding the lipid membranes were determined. The static structural factor of the double layer of phospholipid molecules is calculated. Analysis of the radial distribution of the static structural factor showed that the average distance between the molecules of phospholipids in the plane is about 5 Å.
