Kukhar Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry and Petrochemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine popup.description2  The kinetic features of the synthesis of hybrid nanocomposites of polypyrrole (PPy) have been studied and it has been shown that in the presence of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) the stage limiting the rate of polymerization process changes from the oxidation stage of pyrrole to radical cation to the deprotonation stage of the intermediate product of their dimerization. For the synthesized nanocomposites, the formation of the core-shell structure was established. The existence of strong interaction between CNTs and PPy with the formation of an intermolecular π–π complex between pyrrole rings of PPy and carbon hexagons of the CNT surface has been proved. This interaction is accompanied by a change in the ratio of the concentrations of bipolarons and polarons in the PPi phase. Synthesized nanocomposites show sensitivity to ammonia, acetone, isopropanol, and show high selectivity for ammonia. In the case of investigated volatile organic compounds, the strongest responses are observed for isopropanol. It is shown that up to ~ 40 GHz the efficiency of electromagnetic shielding of CNT/PPy nanocomposites distributed in PVDF matrix exceeds that for nanocomposites with pure nanotubes.
