The first series of collection and analysis of samples from natural reservoirs and a laboratory experiment with simulation of the effect of pharmaceuticals were conducted. It was found that the traditional physical and chemical analysis of water has reflected mainly the geographical features of the state of the aquatic environment, and has not provided for indication of pollution with household wastewater and pharmaceuticals. Based on the analysis of experimental data obtained in the laboratory, a promising set of biomarkers and bioindicator organism was selected to assess the effect of drugs on aquatic ecosystems. Comparison of the subchronic effect of ecologically real concentrations of drugs, such as diclofenac, nifedipine, chlorpromazine alone and in combination with a typical pollutant herbicide Roundup and the heat factor have revealed specific biochemical reactions to each drug and its complex effect. Based on the obtained results, the Integrated Biomarker Index (IBR Index) was developed to assess the toxicity level of drugs in the aquatic environment and a methodology for the differential analysis of the effect of pharmaceuticals on the effect of complex pollution. In an ex vivo experiment, the technology has been proven to be appropriate for the express analysis of the gastrotoxic effect of drugs in minimum environmentally real concentrations.
