The efficacy and specificity of the selected sgRNAs to the ERVW-1 gene were confirmed. At the final stage of the project, it was shown that the genes of endogenous human retroviruses are almost unaffected by Zta (EBV), while the Tat protein (HIV-1) increases their level by 2-3.5 times, depending on the viral load. The effect of Tat on the expression of the ERVW-1 gene is greater than on ERVFRD-1. The obtained data suggest possible mechanisms of ERVW-1 activation in B-cells of HIV-1-affected individuals, change of immunosuppressive mechanisms of these cells under the influence of increase in production of syncytins and, as a consequence, development of B-cell lymphogenesis.
