Appropriate measurements were made to determine the functional traits for the most common dominants of xerothermic vegetation in Ukraine, as well as used data from the literature and digitized some traits for the entire flora of Ukraine. Thus, the creation of a database of functional traits of the flora of Ukraine were initiated, which will serve as a basis for large-scale analysis in the future. During the field season, 210 descriptions of steppe vegetation were made, the leaf surface of 120 species of steppe plants was scanned, seeds of 140 species of steppe plants were collected, mainly those that are dominant steppe cenoses. The classification of steppe vegetation in different regions, as well as for the whole territory of Ukraine to the level of unions is carried out.
