The problems of socio-economic development of Dnieper Ukraine of the XIX - beginning of the XX century are investigated. as a component of Western European modernization processes, the theoretical approaches of foreign research to cover the problem of Soviet modernization, determined by the European civilizational aspect in the historical experience of Ukrainian-Polish relations, are analyzed. Novelty of the research results: - a comprehensive analysis of socio-economic processes of Dnieper Ukraine in the XIX - early XX centuries. in the context of Western theories of modernization; - formed a view on the possibilities of considering Ukrainian modernization processes as those that ensure the internal development and responsibility of European trends; - conceptual directions in the coverage of foreign historiography on this problem of Soviet modernization of the 1920-1930s are analyzed; - identified priority areas of research on this issue, taking into account the achievements of foreign historiography; - the problem of introduction and ways of realization of industrialization in the sugar industry of Podillya in the specified period is actualized; - with the use of archival materials, the circumstances of the application of repressions to the representatives of the engineering and management staff of the sugar industrial enterprises of the region were identified and established; - Ukrainian-Polish relations in the context of the European civilization aspect are comprehensively studied; - their period of development and characteristic features, main directions and prospects of further cooperation are determined.
