The criteria for the implementation of X-ray phase contrast by the free-propagation method, for which the critical parameter is the size of the source spot. The influence of the characteristics of the charged particle beam (spatial current distribution, beam size in focus) on the intensity distribution and coherence of X-rays has been studied. The results can be used to plan experiments and develop a project to create a new generation medical tomograph based on X-ray phase contrast.
