Unlike waste rock, which consists mainly of argillites, siltstones and carbonaceous argillites, substandard coal contains a significant amount of organic carbon. Some substandard coal is characterized by low ash content. This part, according to a preliminary analysis, can become a source of inexpensive raw materials for the coke and chemical industries, in order to obtain aromatic compounds of benzene homologs. Processing of this coal is offered to be carried out by a thermal method. A by-product that increases the energy efficiency of production is combustible gas. The aim of the work is to use substandard coal from the heaps of Lviv-Volyn coal basin mining enterprises as raw material for coke (independently or with charge preparation), aromatic compounds for organic synthesis and combustible gas for thermal energy during combustion. The result of the work will be the development of an efficient and economical technology for obtaining coke and extraction of tars from substandard coal accumulated in the heaps of Lvivvugillya mining enterprises. The general plan of researches includes selection of samples with the subsequent analysis on suitability for reception of the set target products; testing in a laboratory installation for high-temperature processing under different modes; research of the obtained products of high-temperature destruction and determination of their suitability for use in metallurgy (solid residue) and in the chemical industry (tar); development of technology and report preparation.
