The purpose of the work are exploring the theoretical foundations and practical problems of law enforcement and identifying priority areas in the crime fighting; analyzing national legislation to identify gaps, conflicts and inconsistencies with international law; conducting a socio-criminological study of types of crime to determine effective ways to combat them; carrying out comprehensive monitoring of the effectiveness of the norms of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The methodological basis of the department's research was a system of scientific methods, in particular, system-structural, historical-legal, formal-logical, comparative, dogmatic, logical-normative, method of system analysis, modeling, comparative-legal method and others. Results and novelty. It was investigated that promising areas for improving the quality of modern criminal law should be the following: consistency of its provisions with the provisions of other regulations; accuracy of criminal law, their compliance with the principle of legal certainty; criminalization (decriminalization) and penalization (depenalization) of socially dangerous acts should take place after studying the social conditionality of criminal liability for certain acts and conducting socio-criminological research on types of crime to determine effective ways to combat them. Implementation - the theoretical provisions, conclusions and proposals formulated in scientific researches are a concrete contribution both to criminal law, criminological science, and practice of prevention of crimes insofar as they promote improvement of legal and organizational bases of activity of bodies of criminal justice.
