The flows of hazardous household waste in Austria and Ukraine were compared and the risks of environmental pollution when using different methods of hazardous household waste management are assessed. The leaching of heavy metals from waste was assessed. The assessment is based on the simulation of real landfill conditions and using of landfill simulation reactors through comparison of the mass of metals in the input and final waste mixture. Study has shown more leaching of all metals from a mixture with a higher content of organic fraction.
