The purpose of the work is to theoretically investigate and practically verify the behavior and speed of weathering processes of decorative stones of carbonate composition in the urban conditions of the city of Kyiv under the influence of atmospheric and anthropogenic factors. Research methods - analysis of literary sources, field and laboratory (optical microscopy, sclerometry, determination of surface strength, reaction with acids and alkalis) studies. Conditions of work: research work was carried out at the State Gemological Center of Ukraine under the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine (hereinafter referred to as the State Gemological Center of Ukraine) on the basis of field and laboratory studies of the state of preservation of architectural and building objects in Kyiv. Laboratory studies were carried out in the scientific research laboratory of the State Technical University of Ukraine. The results of research work are published in the form of theses of scientific and practical conferences. The results of the completed works will be used to carry out expert studies of decorative stones for the purpose of predicting their expected durability and terms of their operation, as well as to provide consultations and clarifications to state authorities, operators in the market of decorative stones, specialized institutions, legal entities and individuals.
