Bogatsky National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine popup.description2 Preparative methods of synthesis were developed and prototypes of 1,2-, 1,3-, and 1,4-bis- (benzimidazolyl-2-yl) -benzenes based on phthalic, isophthalic and terephthalic acids were obtained. The photoluminescence spectra of solid samples are characterized by a wide band in the region of 380-500 nm. The highest fluorescence intensity ismanifested by the 1,3-derivative, the lowest by the 1,4-isomer. The half-width values are 88.8, 65.6 and 67.7 nm, for 1,2-, 1,3-, 1,4-derivatives, respectively. A method for the synthesis of macroheterocycles containing fragments of bis- (benzimidazolyl-2-yl) -benzenes has been developed. The synthesis of 12-, 15-membered macroheterocycles was carried out by alkylationof 1,3-bis- (benzimidazolyl-2-yl) -benzene with ditosylates of di- and triethyleneglycol, respectively. It was found that undersimilar conditions, the interactionof 1,2-bis- (benzimidazolyl-2-yl) -benzene with triethyleneglycolditosylate forms a 28-membered macroheterocycle with two heterocyclic moieties. The photoluminescence spectra of solid samples of 12-, 15-membered macroheterocycles are characterized by a wide band in the regionof 340-400 nm with a long-wave length arm, increasing the size of the macrocyclic cavity lead sto a short-wave lengthshift, both maximum (9 nm) and shoulder position ) of this band. The fluorescence of the 28-membered macroheterocycleis shifted to a longer wave length region and is expressed by a wide band with a maximumat 383 nm. The fluorescence intensity of a 28-membered macroheterocycleis almost 2 time shigherthanthe intensity of a 12-membered one.
