The formulation and research of the problem of placement of sensors of the air quality control system on the basis of public transport rolling stock is offered. The proposed mathematical formulation of the problem takes into account the priorities and values ​​of air pollution, socio-economic value of the territory and the distance to the nearest observation point, which allows to apply different criteria in building and optimizing air quality control system based on public transport rolling stock, take into account existing stationary points observations, etc. Methods for solving this problem are developed, based on the use of a genetic algorithm, for the generation of the initial population and the mutation method which uses, in addition to standard approaches, a greedy algorithm with various modifications, which allows as a result, in a reasonable time to solve the relevant problems for large cities with a significant number of public transport routes.
