The aim of the research of the first stage is to study taxonomy, phylogeny, faunistics, zoogeography, ecology, life cycle, physiological and behavioral adaptations of key groups of invertebrates. Research methods - classical and modern zoological approaches, including optical and scanning electron microscopy of whole objects, their fragments, histological technique, multidimensional statistics, methods of molecular genetic biology. During the reporting period, the data available and the collection materials on ciliates, free-living and parasitic worms, some groups of arthropods, aquatic and terrestrial mollusks in the region were critically processed. The species diversity, distribution and ecological tolerance of ciliated protozoa, crustaceans and mollusks within continental Ukraine, as well as in reservoirs with salinity gradient have been significantly specified. According the modern taxonomy data on the range, autecology and conservation status of terrestrial mollusks and amphibians of Ukraine and adjacent territories are generalized. A number of new to science species of cave springtails, bristletails, terrestrial and aquatic mollusks, including fossil molluscs, are described. The adaptive nature of changes in the energy metabolism of some species of Black Sea copepods during starvation has been experimentally established. Molecular genetic methods have shown that some African species of parasitic nematodes show closer phylogenetic affinity with species in Eurasia than with other species in Africa.
